Soy Can Make You Fat!

Soy causes belly fatSoy food products were once on the top of my list of healthy foods. I used to consume large quantities of tofu, soy burgers, minced soy (in veg lasagna and pasta), soy spread, soy yogurt and soy milk regularly for many years… until I discovered that soy can make me fat!

How?

Soy contains phytoestrogens (plant derived estrogens) that have an estrogenic effect on the body. Excess estrogens from soy foods can cause fat cells to grow and increase stubborn belly fat.

As much as I like soy foods as a meat and dairy substitutes, I don’t want an expanded waistline.

Haven’t eliminated soy foods completely from my diet, though I’ve cut down my consumption significantly. Instead of soy milk, I drink almond, rice and oat milk. I love eating fruits so giving up soy yogurt is no problem.

Better to eat a variety of foods and in moderation. Too much of any food (even good or healthy foods) can be bad for health.

I’ve been reading up on the risks of soy and I must say I am somewhat alarmed because I eat tofu.

I read on about belly fat and starting getting paranoid, again because I eat tofu.

But then I read on and noticed that the women who claim soy made them fat were drinking soy shakes, soy milk ans soy lattes.

I can’t say with any certainty that soy trims the waste or adds to it. However, what I can say is this: soy milk, soy shakez and soy lattes are not exactly the most calorie sensible of choices.

Like anything else, it’s all about moderation. Tuna isn’t exactly the healthies choice either, if you’re eating it 7 days a week!
